On the 14th of November 2007, we joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Diabetes day. This event aims at increasing awareness about this lifestyle altering and costly disease. Our health centre staff, together with a strong team of enthusiastic volunteers from our community provided free random blood glucose testing, Blood pressure and BMI measurement to the general population. As an encouragement for adapting a healthy diet, fresh salad was served to all those who attended, topped up with a publication that provided information on diabetes. 200 people attended this event!

This international event was celebrated at our health centre on 1st December 2007, with the aim of increasing awareness and thus joining hands with the globe in preventing this killer disease. A slideshow was set up at the health centre for three days, providing HIV/AIDS related information. In addition to this, free HIV testing was offered to the public. Many thanks to the youths of our community who volunteered to organize this successful event. It would not have been possible without their effort!

Every last Sunday of the month of September is World Heart Day. Ebrahim Haji was the only health centre in Tanzania to have participated in this global event. On this day, free cardiac health assessment was provided to the public. A publication was also distributed, focusing on the role of diet in preventing and controlling heart disease. This event was the first of its kind, organized by the health centre, a stepping stone for many others.

Due to the observed increase in degenerative diseases in our community, the CMB devised the community health plan, which aims at strategically improving standards of health in our community. This plan was successfully implemented in November 2007 at the newly refurbished out-patient department of our health centre. Medical investigations that normally cost 80,000 TShs or more were offered to community members at a subsidized rate of 40,000Tsh. This activity was highly appreciated by our brothers and sisters. We look forward to taking this plan further so as to develop healthier future generations. Again, we sincerely appreciate the effort dedicated by the youths of our community who volunteered to participate in the event, not forgetting the hard working health centre staff!

Ebrahim Haji Health Centre is currently undergoing major face lifting operations. After completion of the wards and dental department, the intensive care unit and out-patient department (casualty) have been renovated to meet the current trends in critical patient care. State of the art equipment has been installed in both departments that will make patient care safer and more efficient. Both units are now actively functioning. Insha'Allah soon the whole health centre will have undergone a very pleasant makeover.
